The movie "Blow" is a gangster movie starring Johnny Depp as "Geor-juh", who over time learns the drug smuggling trade and gains huge cuts as a middleman. The story tells of a young boy's farfetching dream to never be poor, after witnessing his father's struggle to attain financial comfort and how the lack of money broke down the foundation of his happy family. His dream is partially realized as he steps into the role of a marijuana dealer in California, slowly expanding and profitting from beach goers. Perhaps there is some "magic" in the dope, Geor-juh stumbles upon the idea that if he bought directly from plantations in mexico, he would make profits exponentially more than his current middleman "bullshit". An innovator at his best, Geor-juh seems to have found the recipe to the American Dream. He was making hundreds of thousands of dollars by selling dope to regional college campuses and not a thing in the world was going to stop him from getting richer. Yes here comes the moment where the justice system wins and yes, Geor-juh ends up in prison where he would meet "Diego", who would then become Geor-juh's partner in crime. Geor-juh then joins the cocaine trafficking, an open market that would prove extremely successful in America. Atypical of most gangster movies such that our "main man" is continously screwed over, the rest of the film proves to be no different and thus i'll spare the summary and just tell you that Geor-juh loses because the justice system always wins. Geor-juh's fall will result in the audience being very sympathetic of Geor-juh's character, yet the audience must keep a conscious mind that this man is the leader of the importation of poison to an entire generation of Americans and very likely destroyed their lives. An unusual thing to note is Geor-juh's different hairstyles throughout the film which reflects his carelessness and lovable character, yet it is possible to interpret it as Geor-juh's own purity of heart while hes involved in drug trafficking, while the other characters in the film are corrupted by their own addiction to the drug(verified by him staying clean for his daughter for 5 years). The film presents a take on the deterioration of morality in the world of drugs as well as paint a sad portrait of a failed boy whose ambitions were beyond his capabilities.
Overall the movie is entertaining and Johnny Depp's charming acting will keep you interested. I recommend watching it if you feel like life isn't treating you right, trust me after watching Blow, you'll realize someone else is putting up with a lot more bullshit than you.
